I want to print my own recipes to fit on 4x6" recipe cards (print on regular paper) and I'm looking for a downloadable template or software program that will let me do it.

Microsoft.com has great Word templates for recipies and there is a couple in 4x6. Just type in templates and then search for recipes on that page.

I am trying to research my family's ancestry and I am using the Mormon software, but it isn't very indepth.

Family Tree Maker ($39) is the market leader in the USA for PC's. Reunion is the only program I know of in the USA for the Mac. I use Roots Magic ($29) in the USA on a PC because I work as a data base designer and I know quality work when I see it.
RM is easy to use but does good things which FTM doesn't do. Exactly what it does will sound like "geek" to you; denormalization, for instance. They use a descriptor table and ID for the location, too.
If, for instance, you have "Modesto, Stanislus, California" as the place for 400 facts in your data base, then you find out the county is spelled "Stanislaus", you can change it just ones and it will be correct in all 400 facts.
I agree partly with Wendy - tools should be secondary. But tools help. RM will let me select people. For instance, if I find a great data base of Pennsylvania Weddings 1752 - 1900, I could have RM show me everyone in my data base who had "Pennsylvania" in any fact type - birth, death, census, marriage - so I could check to see if they were in the marriage data base. I could limit the list to those born after 1740 and before 1900. I could have them "served up" to me in three ways:
1) Selected in the individual view
2) Printed on paper
3) "Printed" to a text file, which I could import into Excel

Sorry but its not possible with the 2.0 + Software/ Firmware.
I was able to do it before the Firmware update but at this time its just not possible i've tried but haven't had success.

If you want to put it on your ipod quick and easily I would suggest Videora Ipod Converter 3.04. It will let you put video on your ipod classic, your iphone, your ipod touch, your ivideo, ipod nano...

Please tell me what options the various software packages have, their advantages, and their prices... I'm looking for a Christmas present and will greatly appreciate any feedback. Note: I know nothing about quilting. I'm still learning the difference between a blanket and a quilt.

The absolute best quilting software is EQ6. It is put out by the Electric Quilt company. http://www.electricquilt.com The first software I bought from them was EQ3 the EQ4 then EQ5. After the first one I would then buy the upgrade for the newest one. I love designing quilts and this software makes it so much easier then trying to draw it on graph paper. There are also some books to help you work through the EQ software. I even have a group where you post questions about EQ5 or EQ6. If you're interested just let me know and I'll send you the link.

I need to find the best software for learning to fly to reduce ground school cost. I have heard that sporties and king has the best but would like more opinions.

I don't know about Sportys for sure but Kings has a pretty good deal on some of their training videos. If you buy them and then an update comes out later on (such as their Garmin GPS training videos), they will often furnish them to you at no extra charge. John and Martha have built an excellent reputation and their videos are also entertaining.

you can learn some navigation from the flight sim packages - like microsofts flight sim. you can use your charts, and tune frequencies, etc.
in the end, it is the instructor, and reading, and understanding what is told to you - never be in a hurry, work through each procedure - aviate, navigate, communicate!!

Our companies has 15 major production lines that offer over 2000 types of product. Each production line has its own pricing programme and very often we offer special prices for our clients. Therefore we are looking for a user-friendly system that allows us to manage and modify (NOT just store) a huge amount of data, including production info, supplier info, customer info.
We are using MS Excel files as our database and we have wasted too much time on copying data from one file to another.
Below are my concerns for some database software that i know of:

I tried A 120% to produce a burn for an old game it manage to only produce something slightly better than a spawned disc.

The extensive media coverage of Windows OS's being attacked is a way for the media to try and bring down the big guy.
The Scumbags are now attacking these other browsers and OS's with a vengence. You are not hearing about it in the news media because they don't generate the attention the media want. If you saw a headline in the paper or on the net that said "LINUX OPERATING SYSTEM ATTACKED BY WORM", odds are you would not read it because you don't use Linux and the Worm doesn't affect you. Maybe a few thousand Windows users will read it. Change Linux to Windows and you will now have millions of readers. Since the number of readers equate to higher advertising rates, publishing a story about Linux is like reducing your AD rates.
Back to your question. Windows has a good Firewall built into the SP2. It does have one flaw in that it does not stop a Virus or spyware program from sending information out of your computer. This has been corrected for the Vista OS but not XP as of yet. Many security experts expect Microsoft to address this with XP after the Vista release early next year.
Zone Alarm is an excellent Firewall program that works in both directions (incoming and outgoing). Zone Alarm is free and will provide you as good protection as any brand you purchase. Most of the people you read that say any product like Norton, McAfee, Zone Alarm etc. is worthless or bad, usually have never used it, or, didn't know or understand how to use it properly. You know these kind of people. They make statements like "Zone Alarm is worthless" and then are incapable of providing and facts to back up their claim.

I took an old pc and installed Ubuntu server (free). I loaded FireStarter which is a font end to the built in firewall. It is easy to setup however I found the DHCP settings did not work for some reason. So managed the DHCP server manually.
Firestarter makes it easy to setup the server as a gateway.

I've used it myself, but the hard drive most be in working condition, if it's not and it's failing, your probably have to take the hard drive in to a computer place and have them do it and buy a new working hard drive to put the data on.

But that alone is not enough. Imagine you unknowingly get a keylogger on your system on friday. You do some online banking etc. Then on saturday you find and remove the keylogger with those programs above. It's too late, the passwords have been recorded and sent back to the person who put the keylogger on your pc. To protect yourself from that scenario, use this program http://www.qfxsoftware.com/
Make sure to download the personal version, it is free. What it does is this: it encrypts all your keystrokes at kernel level, so even if there is a keylogger on your system, it will not be able to find out what you've typed. I want to create a software that somebody will use for their needs, as freeware, and I'm thinking of doing something: Make a software every month that people ask for. Does anyone know of a good software program where an employee can walk up to the front desk, clock in electronically on a computer we already have without the need for any cards or badges? And then do the same to clock out at the end of the day? Then an administrator would need to access the program on another networked computer at the end of the day to see a report on how many hours each employee worked? To learn to build a website, you will need following
1 Any plain text editor like windows notepad
2 Internet Browser like FireFox, Internet Explorer etc
3 Web server like Apache, IIS etc
You can check plain HTML web pages without any web server.
But if you want to learn about server side scripting languages like php, asp, java, or .net then you will need corresponding web servers like I have mentioned above.
And yes buy some book on HTML, Javascript, CSS etc.
Don't start learning using software like Dreamweaver or Front Page. When you are sure about all HTML tags and attributes then only go for those kind of software.

1 Any plain text editor like windows notepad
2 Internet Browser like FireFox, Internet Explorer etc
3 Web server like Apache, IIS etc
You can check plain HTML web pages without any web server.
But if you want to learn about server side scripting languages like php, asp, java, or .net then you will need corresponding web servers like I have mentioned above.
And yes buy some book on HTML, Javascript, CSS etc.
Don't start learning using software like Dreamweaver or Front Page. When you are sure about all HTML tags and attributes then only go for those kind of software.

Since my work software (Trados 6.5, Trados 7.1 and SDL Trados 2006) seem to have problems with the Microsoft updates, I have been advised that the least expensive solution would be to have my two computers connected in a network but only ONE of them connected to the Internet. Thus, in one computer I would be able to work with my Trados software without any conflicts with the Microsoft updates. The other computer, connected to the Internet I could use to do my research and to send my jobs out. Can anyone give me an opinion on this matter?

My friend's teenage daughter has a psychological problem with math. She loves to read and has read at college level since third grade, so she is very smart. She just has trouble with math. When confronted with a math problem she gets very frustrated and emotional. She refuses help and has genuine panic attacks even though she is very even-keeled and emotionally stable most of the time. Can anyone help us find good websites or software or tutors that can help this otherwise brilliant kid with math?

Study habits can also focus the mind for some people...but not all. For example, many people like listening to music, but that completely screws me over, because I'm a musician and I get absorbed in it and I can read a chapter of a book and have no clue what I read, but be able to tell you what key the music was in. This and a lot of other stuff has been getting me investigating ADHD/ADD. That might be one to consider as well...but it is overdiagnosed and underdiagnosed at the same time, if you will...so if you have that checked out, be sure it's by someone who has experience with it. It's not a big deal, but if she has a pattern of distractability that you can trace back a long time, it's worth at least considering.
In either case, I don't know if I'd try a website or software to help... Mainly because they are impersonal approaches, and I believe most people find it difficult enough to study from a book sitting still, let alone staring at an eye-tiring monitor.
That also brings up another facet...people learn in different ways. There are a lot more intelligent people than there are ones that ace school. Few learn best while sitting still... I notice my mind works better when I'm exercising or active in some way. Some people do benefit from the music (baroque classical has been said to actually affect plant growh haha), etc... So maybe there's something she can do which will improve her attention span as well, depending on her personality.
If it truly is just anxiety alone, then I think some personal attention, even if not math tutoring, would be beneficial. In school, everyone's probably going to be afraid of looking stupid if they're not good at something...so she would need to be in an environment, or at least perceive that she would not be chastised or laughed at if she makes a mistake (this may be relevant, depending on how "nice" the school is).
If, in the end, a tutor is the answer, I don't know where you are, but my friend, whom I've known over a decade, has actually just started a tutoring business, specializing in math. He is doing grad work now, and he's as good as they come at math (the sort the inept high school teacher would be checking her answers with).
We have both had discussions about how knowing how to do math and teaching it are two distinct skills (one obviously requiring the other). This is the Binghamton, NY area, by the way. Most of the major tax software companies publish professional tax prep software. TaxWorks is pretty popular but by no means the only player.
For bookkeeping software, both Quickbooks and Peachtree are hard to beat. Quickbooks is easier to get up and running but Peachtree tends to be more customizable.

If you're going to be doing this professionally, you'll need professional software. You can't use the consumer products for commercial tax prep operations.
Most of the major tax software companies publish professional tax prep software. TaxWorks is pretty popular but by no means the only player.
For bookkeeping software, both Quickbooks and Peachtree are hard to beat. Quickbooks is easier to get up and running but Peachtree tends to be more customizable.
If you go with Quickbooks, it integrates with Intuit's Pro Series tax software quite nicely though most accounting packages can export information in a format that most professional tax software can import to speed the tax return prep process along.

You can create Inviatations on Adobe Photoshop, Microsoft Word, Flash, create one and you can copy as many numbers as you want.

Adobe illustrator..doesn't animate.
Autocad... very expensive and is actually designed for use to creating models with parameters industrial engineers can build from.
I get the feeling that you're not really trying to do something like that.
Instead, I'd recommend Flash.
With flash, you're working with vector imaging, which means that you'll have clean, crisp computer-generated lines that can scale/zoom cleanly to any resolution. You also have rulers, gradients, layers, animation...the whole package. You can export your animated creations in the default .swf file or a number of other formats such as .mov, .avi, HTML, etc and your still images in nearly every static 2d format available, for all operating systems.
That is, unless I am wrong and you really need a *3D* animator, so that you can show the tools from different angles in real time..like, to actually be able to *rotate* objects as they're moving.... "modeling". In that case, I might lean towards Auto CAD (it *is* an industry standard) except, just don't buy the latest/greatest/sexiest release, which goes for thousands of dollars; older versions with only a few less bells and whistles can go for a fraction of that...maybe a few hundred bucks.
Blender is an application with promise and capabilities...but nothing in the name of support; it is unfortunately one of a number of open-source apps which doesn't even feature a Help menu!
Don't know much about Solidworks.
And most of these and other applications have limited trials of one kind or another. I think Maya has a "learner's version" that has all the capabilities except it watermarks output....but I have to warn, Maya (fave app of Pixar) has a *stiff* learning curve; you have to actually (to a point) 'customize' it for yourself to use it optimally, arranging your tool set..
P.S. and it wouldn't hurt to have a dual monitor set up so your main image can be on one and your tools/pallets on another. Also, a graphic tablet (a used Wacom might be affordably priced) would be nice; you'll forget how you ever worked with a mouse before (or as my friend affectionately calls a computer mouse, "like trying to draw with a bar of soap").
