What is the best software for a newbie to learn to build a website?

I want to make my own website. Is there any software I should learn before I do this. Thank you.

What is the best software for a newbie to learn to build a website?
To learn to build a website, you will need following

1 Any plain text editor like windows notepad

2 Internet Browser like FireFox, Internet Explorer etc

3 Web server like Apache, IIS etc

You can check plain HTML web pages without any web server.

But if you want to learn about server side scripting languages like php, asp, java, or .net then you will need corresponding web servers like I have mentioned above.

And yes buy some book on HTML, Javascript, CSS etc.

Don't start learning using software like Dreamweaver or Front Page. When you are sure about all HTML tags and attributes then only go for those kind of software.

All the best
Reply:Probably this program called Dreamweaver. Its what they used to teach the Web Design class in my old highschool and it was way easy to use if you are to lazy to learn html like I did in like 5th grade which is easier in my opinion.
Reply:dreamweaver! but the school taught me by using microsoft word
Reply:dreamweaver or frontpage express...
Reply:you can begin with a free service like Googlepages

Reply:i am a newbie last time , my school doesn't teach me anything on buliding site .....

However , i just learn from yahoo geocities's help ...... i printed all the help page from geocities and read them when i free .....Afterthat i just create a simple site by typing short code ....After u learned a little bit about those code , u may abandon your geocities account and using other complicated software like Macromedia Dreamweaver that have more function ...By using dreamveaver , typing long code is no longer nessaries .... It works automatically resembles microsoft office word .....
Reply:my suggestion would be to go for a freeware like pagebreeze or nvu. both are very intuitive and relatively easy to use.
